Estate Kit

From a set of raw requirements to a fully launched estate readiness platform.

The Challenge

Most people think estate planning ends with a will. It doesn't. When a crisis hits, families need far more: instructions, account locations, contacts, passwords, medical wishes, even who takes the dog. Estate Kit set out to close that gap with a platform where Canadians could organize everything their loved ones would need, in one secure place.

The hard part was scope. Building this product meant breaking down an entire life into its component parts: health, finances, property, pets, final wishes, and the people trusted to act on all of it. Layered on top was the logic of authority itself. Powers of attorney and executors hold different powers that activate at different moments, some during life, some at death. The product had to model those rules correctly, because families would rely on it at the worst possible moment. Estate Kit came to us with requirements and a clear vision. What they needed was a partner to turn a life's worth of complexity into a product people could actually finish.

The Solution

We worked with the Estate Kit team to define the product from the ground up: the full information architecture of a person's estate, section by section, and the flows that guide someone through documenting it without feeling overwhelmed.

A few decisions shaped the work. Every section had to earn its place, because asking someone to document their entire life is a big request, and the product needed to make each step feel achievable. The sharing model had to reflect how authority actually works, so trusted people see the right information at the right time, and nothing transfers before it should. And because the platform holds the most sensitive information a family has, security and trust were treated as product features, not infrastructure details.

The Outcome

Estate Kit is fully launched and in market today. The platform went live in Canada in June 2026 as a CARP Approved partner, endorsed by Canada's largest advocacy association for older adults and available to its more than 250,000 members. It launched alongside a partnership with Willful, Canada's leading online will platform, connecting will creation to everything that comes after.

The product now anchors a growing company, with coverage in Advisor.ca and Investment Executive and testimonials from tax lawyers, accountants, and executors using it with their own families. What began as a set of requirements became a launched platform helping Canadian families leave their loved ones clarity, not chaos.
