HomePlan
A rapid design and build that lets first-time homebuyers see their equity grow.
The Challenge
HomePlan, a shared-equity homeownership program from North America Home Finance, helps people buy into a home with as little as 1% down. It serves buyers the traditional market has priced out: renters, single earners, people rebuilding credit, families without help from their parents. For most, this is their first step into ownership, and every concept is new.
The program worked, but it had an invisibility problem. Buyers made their payments, the home appreciated, their equity grew, and they saw none of it. There was no report, no chart, nothing to hold onto. It's hard to keep contributing money to something you can't see. And equity in this model is genuinely complicated. The 20% target moves with the market, and growth comes from four different sources. HomePlan needed an app that made all of this feel clear and motivating, and they needed it fast.
The Solution
We designed and built the iOS app on a rapid timeline, keeping the scope ruthlessly tight around one job: show buyers their equity growing.
The dashboard leads with a single number, current equity, and progress toward the 20% target. Below it, a growth chart breaks down where the equity comes from: the initial deposit, share of principal paid down, share of appreciation, and any extra contributions. Onboarding is one screen. Buyers get an email with a download link, confirm their property details, and land on their dashboard. A built-in referral program turned the product's best growth channel, word of mouth, into a shareable link with a double-sided bonus.
The Outcome
The program the app supports keeps scaling. North America Home Finance completed an IPO and listed on the Canadian Securities Exchange in early 2026, with HomePlan now anchoring communities in Kelowna and Victoria and expansion under evaluation.
